This game concentrates on your ability to recognize and spell written English. Finding English texts in a grid helps you to recognize what the English words and sentences look like and starts to teach you English spelling for this topic vocabulary too. This is a vital skill in mastering basic English and being able to use it in real life situations.
Notes
- Word search is a one player game to learn or revise written English.
- Word search is a timed game - play a few times, set a personal best time and try to get on the leaderboard!
- It is best to go through the written texts in the topic lesson before you attempt this game.
- The language items can be in straight lines on the grid but more often they follow a stepped, winding path so they can be hard to find.

How to play "Word search" to learn "1 to 10" in English
- Select the "Word search" game from the games selection page.
- On the settings page there are brief instructions on how to play.
- Click on PLAY to start the game. The game is timed and the clock starts.
- The grid is displayed along with the list of texts you must find - the first text is highlighted. That text is also spoken.
- Tap on the speaker button at bottom left to hear the audio repeated and to see the image for that text.
- Look through the grid of letters to find the text.
- The letters may be in a straight line but more likely they will be in a non-linear pattern.
- If the target text is a sentence, the words of the text are separated by spaces
- Click or tap on the first letter then drag along the letters to the last letter - the letters you drag across will change colour.
- If your answer is right, a bell will ring, the text is ticked in the list and the next round will start.
- If your answer is wrong, the wrong sound will play. Try to find the right letters again, or click on the 'Reveal' button if you can't find them.
- You need to either find the text or click the 'Reveal' button to move on to the next round.
- Each game consists of 10 rounds.
- The leaderboard for "Word search" records the fastest times for each topic. Click the gold star to see the leaderboard scores for a topic.
- If you get one of the 10 fastest times, you are offered the chance to enter your name into the leaderboard, or you can cancel if you are not interested.
