I've used English Activities fine but now the site isn't working properly. What has happened? We are frequently updating our websites to add new resources and make them load quicker. Sometimes browsers will hold on to old content rather than downloading the new material. This leads to a mix of old and new files in the browser which can break the website. That store of files is called the "browser cache".
If the site doesn't seem to be working right, the first thing you should try is to "clear your cache" - which means delete the old files and force the browser to fetch the latest ones - this solves 90% of issues (with most websites, not just ours). There is lots of information on how to clear the cache if you search for "clear cache " + your browser name.
If you need more help, or that doesn't solve your problem, contact us and we will get it sorted!
What is English Activities? English Activities is a free website for adults and children learning or revising EFL ESL English. It consists of games, lessons and tests to help learners improve / reinforce their beginner English in a lively and enjoyable way.
What does it cost to use English Activities? That's easy! It is absolutely and completely free to use for ever and ever!
How do you use English Activities? English Activities is very easy to use - you will find help signs on all pages not only telling you how to use the resource on that page, but also giving you some background into how this activity will help with your EFL ESL learning and retention. Further information about the materials can be found on the parent page and the about page. Feel free to contact us if you have suggestions for further materials we could include in English Activities
What English is provided by the resource? The English is beginner level, suitable for those starting to learn the language. The language supplied includes a lot of vocabulary plus simple sentences in the first person present tense, plus common phrases. The English we supply is absolutely standard UK diction and grammar. All our texts and speech are carefully checked to ensure there are no errors in the language. This website is not designed for learners of American English who may find some of the language does not correspond to standard usage in the USA.
Who is English Activities intended to be used by? English Activities was created from a teaching product we developed for primary and secondary pupils (5 to 16 years) but it is suitable and enjoyable for adults learning EFL ESL at a beginner level.
How do the high score leaderboards work? You can choose to use or switch off the high score leaderboards for English Activities using the tick box in the settings panel accessed by clicking on the flags at top right. With the box ticked (default) some games - Sow grow, The frog flies, Pong and Beetle bee - offer to save scores that are in the top 10 for that game-topic pair.
Players are allowed to record up to 3 entries for any game-topic pair.
If there are scores saved for a particular game-topic pair, a gold star on a brown background will appear on the game introduction page. Clicking on the star will reveal the current high scores.
When a player saves a high score, only the given name, score, date and, if selected, the country code are saved to the database. All scores for all games are deleted each year at the end of August.
Do you do websites for other languages? We have language learning websites for:
I am a teacher - do you do any whole class games and activities? iclanguage.com has an MFL resource for teaching called Teach English Online which uses many of the same materials as English Activities. It is free to use, and is designed for whole class teaching in schools and colleges.
